What the Zeus-X Go Ultra Is

The Go Ultra is the flagship of Futurizta's Zeus-X range. It is a 6-in-1 universal cable: USB-A or USB-C on one end, Lightning, USB-C or Micro-USB on the other. That covers iPhones old and new, Android phones, tablets, laptops, earbuds and older Micro-USB gadgets.

240W power delivery

The Go Ultra is rated for 240W, the highest USB power level. Paired with a capable USB-C charger it can fast charge a laptop, not just a phone. An E-Mark smart chip handles safe, efficient high-wattage charging, and PowerShare lets you pass emergency power from one device to another. Real-world speed still depends on your charger and device, so a phone will charge at its own maximum.

USB4 Data and DP-Alt Mode Video

This is what separates the Ultra from the standard Zeus-X Go. The Ultra supports USB4 at up to 40Gbps for high-speed data transfer, and DP-Alt Mode lets you cast or mirror your screen to a compatible USB-C monitor, just like an HDMI cable. Plug a laptop or tablet into a portable display, or move a folder of photos to an SSD, with the same cable you charge with.

Individual connectors vs multi-head cables

Many "universal" cables are multi-head cables: one plug splits into three or four tips that hang off the end at once, and any devices plugged in share the power. The Ultra adds 40Gbps USB4 and DP-Alt Mode. If you only need charging, the Go is enough. If you also transfer large files or use an external display, get the Ultra. If you only charge phones and earbuds, the original Zeus-X (27W iPhone fast charging, up to 60W USB-C) is the simplest option.

Getting the Most From the Go Ultra

The charger sets the ceiling

A cable never adds power; it only lets through what the charger offers and the device asks for. USB Power Delivery works as a handshake: the charger lists the power levels it supports, the device picks the highest one it can safely use, and the cable must be rated to carry it. A 20W phone brick will charge at 20W or less no matter which cable you use. To see laptop-class speeds you need a USB-C charger with enough output, such as the Pixy 100W GaN travel charger, and a laptop that accepts that level.

240W needs a 240W charger

240W is the top of the USB Power Delivery 3.1 standard (Extended Power Range, 48V at 5A). Very few chargers and laptops use the full 240W today; most USB-C laptops draw between 45W and 140W. A 240W-rated cable is useful because it will never be the bottleneck. Whatever your charger and laptop agree on, the cable can carry it, now and with the next laptop you buy.

Lightning and Micro-USB have their own limits

The Lightning and Micro-USB connections are limited by those standards, not by the cable. iPhones on Lightning fast charge at up to about 20-27W depending on model, and Micro-USB devices charge slowly by design. USB-C to USB-C is the connection where high wattage and fast data apply.

Using it with a monitor

DP-Alt Mode works over the USB-C to USB-C connection. Both the laptop or tablet and the monitor must support video over USB-C (often shown as a DisplayPort or Thunderbolt symbol next to the port, or listed as "DisplayPort Alt Mode" in the device specs). Portable USB-C monitors are the most common match: one Go Ultra carries the picture from your laptop to the display. If your monitor also needs power, check whether it draws it from the same port or needs its own supply.

Moving files quickly

For USB4 speeds, both ends must support them. A modern laptop connected to a fast USB-C SSD will benefit most. Older USB 3 devices still work, at their own maximum speed, so the Ultra never makes a connection slower than it would otherwise be.

Flying and hotels

Hotel rooms, airport lounges and seat-back ports are a mix of USB-A and USB-C. Because a Zeus X cable accepts either on the power side, you can plug into whatever is there and still reach Lightning, USB-C or Micro-USB on the device side. One cable replaces the bundle most people pack, which also means one less thing to leave in a hotel room.

In the car

All Zeus X cables support Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Many cars still have a USB-A port for CarPlay while phones have moved to USB-C, and passengers often carry a different phone again. A Zeus X cable in the console covers the driver's phone and a passenger's phone without swapping adapters.

Sharing power

The Zeus-X supports phone-to-phone charging, and the Go and Go Ultra include PowerShare. When a friend's phone is on 2% and yours is on 60%, you can pass some charge across with the same cable.

iPhone

iPhone 15 and newer use USB-C, so the USB-C to USB-C connection gives them the fastest wired charging they support. iPhone 14 and earlier use Lightning; plug the USB-C end into a USB-C Power Delivery charger for fast charging, or into any USB-A port for standard charging. The same Go Ultra also charges AirPods with either Lightning or USB-C cases.

Android phones

Most current Android phones charge over USB-C and use USB Power Delivery or PPS for fast charging, which works over USB-C to USB-C. Older or budget Android phones, and many accessories, still use Micro-USB, which the Go Ultra also covers.

Laptops and MacBooks

MacBooks and most modern Windows laptops charge over USB-C Power Delivery. The Go Ultra is rated for 240W, more than any current laptop needs, so pair it with a USB-C charger that matches your laptop's own charger rating and it will charge at full speed. With DP-Alt Mode, the same cable can also connect the laptop to a compatible USB-C monitor.

iPad and tablets

Current iPads and most Android tablets charge over USB-C, and they benefit from a higher-wattage charger than a phone. Older Lightning iPads work through the Lightning connection.
